FAQ
Do you play original songs during wedding/event performances?
I only play popular covers during events unless asked otherwise.
What sort of events do you perform at?
I am willing to perform at all events provided certain terms and conditions are met. Please tell me more about your event when enquiring.
Do you perform outside?
I'm more than happy to play outside, however I will always need cover in the form of a 2m x 2m gazebo with 3 sides covered. This is to protect myself and the equipment from rain or direct sunlight which can both be dangerous. I offer to provide and set up my own gazebo but charge a small fee for this due to the added time needed.
Who decides the set list for the event?
The set list is decided by myself but I like to get to know my client's music tastes personally beforehand and allow 10 song choices from them which is usually just under half the set. I play appropriate song choices for the event type and only play my best songs.
What do you charge?
My prices are based on each individual event. My usual rate is £300 plus travel expenses but if my diary is more free, I charge less, and if my diary is busy, I may charge slightly more. Please use the contact form and provide as much detail as possible in order to receive an accurate quote.
How far are you willing to travel?
I'm willing to travel up to 3-4 hours each way from Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
What's the usual set duration?
The standard is 2x45 minute sets separated by a 15-30 minute break. However I do negotiate on bookings to accommodate your needs.
Will you play an additional set if asked on the day?
In almost all cases, this is something I'm not willing to do. I pace the music and song choices of the set to build and end with the final song. Asking for an additional set after this will always be a no.
How far in advance do you take bookings and are booked up?
I take bookings up to 3 years in advance and am usually booked up for weekend dates between 3-6 months in advance. I will however take a booking last minute if I'm available so never be put off asking if your event is before 3 months time or even the next day.
Will you learn a song for my event?
I offer to learn songs for each event at a cost based on song complexity. Most songs are about £30.
My venue has asked about PAT certificates and insurance?
All my equipment is PAT certified and fully insured. Documents can be sent to yourself or your venue on request.
Do you play down the aisle?
I do offer this service but it requires an additional set up of equipment and more hours of service which has additional costs. Please mention this when booking to discuss.
Can we hire you as a DJ?
I do not offer this service currently. I play suitable background music in between my sets but do not offer playlists before or after my live performance.
Can I use your equipment to play music?
I do not offer this service as most venues have their own, more secure speaker system that you can plug your playlists into.
Terms And Conditions
To make an event booking, please complete the contact form after reading below and provide as much detail as possible. Eg: location, date, set duration, access time to venue (for set up), if additional set ups are required (for events in changing rooms), running times for the event.
As the Client making the booking, you must provide these requirements for the Artist JayRar or are responsible for checking with the venue that these requirements are met:
-
a minimum of 60 minutes to set up and sound check. 90 minutes is the preferred amount of time to provide the best sound quality for your event.
-
a minimum of 1 plug socket from the mains to perform.
-
a 1.8m x 1.8m space for the equipment and performance. This space must be hazard free and not blocking any fire escapes. It must also be adequately covered from possible rain or direct sunlight if outside to avoid damage to the equipment. It is possible to squeeze into tighter spaces with different, lesser quality equipment/sound so please discuss this when booking.
-
free drinking water throughout the event.
-
free parking at the event. If this isn't possible, then the client is responsible for paying any parking fees for the artist.
-
full payment to be made at least 7 days before the event.
Failure to provide these requirements may result in the performance being cancelled, with the full cost still needing to be paid by the client to the artist.
Before The Event
After your initial enquiry, you will receive a quote for your event and then if you would like to proceed with the booking, you will be asked to pay a 25% deposit by bank transfer and sent a contract (to be signed and returned) in order to secure your booking. No date is in the diary or 'pencilled in' until this deposit is received and the signed document has been returned.
After the event is booked, additional information can be provided at any time and any questions can be asked leading up to the event. JayRar will contact you roughly 3-4 weeks before the event in order to double check all the details and receive the running times for the day. The Remaining payment must be completed at least a week before the event to allow time for it to be received.
During The Event
Small delays are common and accepted as part of the process, however if delays go over an hour, the client may be charged at time and a half of the National Living Wage. Song choice will be made by the artist in order to best suit the atmosphere and to give the best quality performance possible. However, if there are any songs from the set list you specifically want playing or not playing for personal reasons, please inform the artist at least a week before the event and best efforts will be made to accommodate this. Performance sets are spaced by a 15-30 minute break. If you require different spacing, please inform the artist during the booking process. On completion of the performance, the artist will commence packing down of the equipment in a timely and professional manner.
Cancellations
If the Client does not want to keep the booking, after the contract has been signed, and cancels the Artist, the following fees will apply:
-More than 60 days before the event date - 25% of the fee (this is covered by the initial deposit)
-Between 60 and 30 days of the event date - 50% of the fee
-Between 29 and 15 days of the event date - 75% of the fee
-Between 14 days until the day of the event - 100% of the fee
Both the client and artist can cancel a booking as a result of Acts of Nature (including fire, flood, earthquake, storm, hurricane or other natural disaster), war, terrorist activities, death, or other incapacity certified by a properly qualified medical practitioner, epidemic, accident, civil commotion, order of Government or Local Authority having jurisdiction in the matter or changes in law. In these cases, no additional fees are to be paid but evidence for such matters must be provided. In the case of the artist being ill or injured, the client will be informed and will be fully refunded immediately.
